10 Years
Around this time 10 years ago, myself and my best friend Becky became best friends. Yep, a whole 10 years ago!
We’ve been through so much together, been there for each other, thankfully not too many arguments, had far too many laughs and many good times and been on plenty of holidays too!
We met in 1997 when we went from Primary School, into big scary secondary school. We were both in the same tutor group throughout the entire time we were at school. At first we used to compete against each other in class to see who could get more merits than the other, who did the better homework etc - yes that’s right, we started out quite geeky!!
Didn’t take long to get over that though and we became really good friends
In every class we had we would sit next to each other and have a giggle throughout the lesson
We would write many notes to each other discussing the guys that we liked, how boring the class was, just general randomness
We were both good little girlies in school, not one single detention
even got out of the class ones a few times as we honestly didn’t have anything to do with trouble that had been caused in class
Some times when we found one of our lessons really boring, I used to say I needed to go out and test my blood sugar, where we’d then go to the loos and spend about 20 mins in there chatting until we decided it was time to go back to class
naughty us
Every Friday after school, we would go to the village in between ours, with our friend Sam and do a paper round. All we did really was mess around
We’d spend the night round each others houses on Friday, staying up until all hours in the morning drinking diet coke and eating loads of sugary goodness!!
Particularly when staying at Becky’s we always stayed in her second living room, making tents out of her sofa and duvets draped over the top
We usually ended up sticking a film on and falling asleep to it
We had many trips out shopping in which we would always come back with pretty much the same clothes!
Underwear and tops usually!
The 3 years at lower school went really quickly and it was soon time to go to the final part of school, upper school. Everything changed there. Our original tutor group was split up, like all the others and we all had different lessons to one and other depending on what subjects you were taking. Me and Becky were still in the same tutor group thankfully.
Didn’t have many lessons the same but the majority of them we were together. German and English lessons were the most fun. We could chat and mess around the teacher didn’t really care
A lot of the time, our teachers would laugh with us, we never got told off for laughing
Too good we were *angelic*
We always had so many giggle fits, the stupidest word would make us laugh and carry on laughing throughout the whole of the lesson
We still spent after school on friday together, heading into town, going to the cafe for a drink and a slice of chocolate fudge cake and then go round each others houses. Our laughing never stopped, we were always having fun, going mad and chatting about everything. We both went into 6th form and I didn’t see Becky so much during the school day as we didn’t have many classes or frees together at all, so we saw each other more outside of school. I left 6th form after the first year to go to college in Oxford as I didn’t feel I was doing well there and couldn’t really think of what I could do after I left school, so went to college to to an administration course. Myself and Becky drifted apart while I was there, as I wasnt seeing her much and spent more time with the people I was at college with. Thankfully though this didn’t last and we soon got back to how things were!
I left college and started work in the summer that Becky finished school forever
She was waiting on the results of her A levels to see if she could get into the Uni she wanted. She got the grades she needed and was heading off to Leeds for 3 years
I was actually quite upset when she left. My best friend was leaving to start a newish life up north and I was stuck back here. We made presents for each other before she left, a picture frame full of random pics of us througout the time we knew each other - quite sweet really
While she was in Leeds I didn’t get to see her much as it cost money to get there to see her and she couldn’t afford to come back here much. I always looked forward to the holidays though when she would come back! We’d see more of each other, meeting up and going out!
I saw her more in her last year of uni, as she used to take her car with her so would come back more often to visit
She’s now finished uni for good so is back here, and we now see each other every week for a catch up, laughs and randomness!
For our 10 year celebrations, we decided that last week on Thursday after work, we would go shopping and get some dinner. We didn’t buy much. The only thing we did buy was maching bras. Thought it was a good idea, as in the first year of school we both had the same bras then, so thought it would be pretty cool, that 10 years later we had the same bras again
strange really
Dinner was funny. We had another one of our giggle fits, but even worse as we were in the middle of eating our pudding and it’s very hard to eat whilst laughing so food actually ended up elsewhere other than our mouths!!
So, happy 10 years Becky my dear!
Here’s to many more!
Lets hope we do get to majorly old age like we’ve chatted about before, when we’ll be sitting in rocking chairs with our blue tinted hair talking about ‘the good old days’
Love ya hun!
Few pics of us together throughout the years
