On Friday, I went to see the Riverdance in Oxford at the New Theatre with my parents, my sister and Matt. I had been looking forward to this for ages and was getting really excited as the wait to see it drew closer and closer. Matt was meant to arrive at mine for before 7 but wasn’t here by the time we wanted to leave so we said we’d meet him in Oxford. We got there and started queing up to get in, without Matt. He was stuck in traffic on the M40. We put his ticket behind the deskfor him to collect when he got here, but I decided I would wait for him as he didn’t know Oxford too well and I would have to help him get to where we were. 8 o’clock finally approached (the time the show was meant to start) and he still hadn’t turned up. He finally called me to tell me he had parked up - at last!! Like I thought, I had to give him directions from where he was to where I was. He found me and we went in. We had to wait a while to be allowed inside as the show had already started - we had missed the start of it!
When we were allowed in, we found our seats and began to watch the rest of the show. It was amazing!! The dances, the music and the costumes were all amazing! Hearing the sound of the dancers shoes on the dance floor, watching the dancers dance in unison in these wonderful outfits, sent shivers down my spine and made goosebumps appear all over!
Act One
“In a primitive and powerful world, our ancestors knew fear and joy and fire, worked wood and stone and water to make a place they could call home. The first peoples knew the world as a place of pwoer, their songs and dances and stories are negotiations with elemental powers. The first half of this performance shows them coming to terms with the world and with themselves.”
During the interval, we sat and ate ice cream while we talked about the first act and how good it was. I could overhear the people around me talking with their family and friends with them about how they wished they could dance the way the performers could. I wished the same. My primary school used to run classes after school to learn how to Irish Dance. Many of my friends had joined the class and I wanted to too, I wanted to perform with them and enter competions. But the teacher running the class didn’t like me or my mum so wouldn’t let me join, which was really mean. I had to get my friends to teach me it during break times at school. least i sort of got to do it though!
People started to come back to their seats for the second act and quickly the entire room was full of cheering and clapping as the show continued.
Act two
“Watr, famine and slavery shattered the ancient bonds, between people and place. Forced dislocations marked and altered the histories of the native peoples. As we came into history we learned to guard what we valued, to accommodate ourselves to others, to learn new ways of being ourselves, to embrace new kinds of courage. Cast out and momentarily orphaned, we learned to belong to the world.”
At the end, the enture cast come out onto the stage and perform once more a small dance they had performed in the show and then began to dance all together, to the same tune, the same dance, the Riverdance. Everyone, including me loved it. We drowned out the music at one point by cherring and clapping so much. It really is hard to describe exactly how I felt whilst watching it, and possibly how everyone else felt watching it but it truely is amazing to watch. Beats watching it on TV or on video (like we have at home
). I would recommend to anyone to go and see it live if you get the chance, definately a must see!

Leeds Summer Ball! Something I’ve been looking forward to for a while!
Had my dress all sorted (wore the one I wore to Ady and Chrissie’s MINI get together last year - it’s all about saving money
) and Matt had his tux sorted - at a pretty good price too! After shoppping around in Leeds on Friday we headed back to our hotel. Sorted out with Becky what time to go round hers to get ready. Started getting ready but had a bit of a mishap when shaving my legs in the shower.. I got out the shower and started drying off when I noticed large amounts of blood on my legs!
I hadnt cut myself, my legs had been really dry and when shaving they had started to bleed. I looked like a right muppet, and even more so when I started sticking toilet paper to my legs to stop them bleeding. After about 15 minutes they eventually stopped and I could carry on getting ready. Packed up our stuff and then headed over to Beckys. We all started getting ready, us girlies in our dresses and the guys in their tux’s! took us a little while to get ready, put all our makeup on, and straightened our hair. Put everything back in the car and then we all headed off to the uni for drinks. Some pics..

About half 7, people started coming round to tell us that for the people that were sue to leave on the 8pm bus had to start heading over to the buses now. We gathered our things and headed over to the bus. We were lucky to get on a bus with about 7 seats left so as soon as we were on and seated, we were off to the Ball! :DÂ We finally got there and headed off to have some food and drink before going to have a dance and then watch the Automatic!
The ball was great fun!
wondered around having fun and taking loads of pics! As the night went on, I had to sit down for a while, as standing up for such a long time was causing my feet to hurt. Matt came to join me and we sat and watched everyone have some fun! We were soon joined by Becky and Jon who were in the middle of a very bad arguement
Becky was in tears! She sat with me for the rest of the evening while I tried to cheer her up! Managed to eventually and we enjoyed the rest of the evening. The Ball carried on until 6 in the morning but I couldn’t stay that long as me and Matt had to leave early the next day! We got the bus back to the Uni and then got a taxi back to Beckys to pick up my car. Drove back to the hotel and realised I had left my only pair of jeans at Beckys house! what a muppet! I couldn’t go back and get them as no one was in as they were all still at the ball! So the next morning when we had to leave, we went back round Beckys, spent a while trying to wake her up so she could let me in! I looked rather silly though, will my dress round my waist like a skirt, a black strap top, trainers and socks! thankfully no one saw - I think! Finally got my trousers back and we were then set to make our way home! Was a great weekend, shame it’s over!
Here are the pics from the ball!
